Fairmont Mayakoba Resort

The Fairmont Mayakoba Resort is located on the beautiful Southern Yucatan Peninsula, also known as the Riviera Maya, in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. The resort houses a 320 key hotel, a 16,000 SF Willow Stream Spa and 30 beachfront villas. Through the master planning effort, it was conceived with an environmental emphasis – preservation of place, place the guest in the natural surroundings of the Yucatan, and create a light footprint on the land.

Mangroves, the reason for the sensational water quality of the Yucatan, were preserved and are the natural focus. Upon arrival the guest experiences nature as valets initially escort guests to their ‘room in the jungle’. The villas are a residential quality construction with four keys typically associated with each villa. The site orientation focuses on a naturalized order with the guest outdoor spatial experience critical. No rooms have direct access views into other rooms. Villas are located within and on canal edges with plunge pools directly linked to canals. Great discovery pools, spatially separated, give variety to the guest experience. The most innovative master planning feature is giving a traditional convention hotel of this size and magnitude, a private guest experience of a luxury villa. Thus the ‘long block building’ footprint typically associated with the Yucatan was discarded; a villa style guest experience, where nature is the focus, was introduced to the peninsula.
