400 South Record Street

Location: Dallas, Texas
Project Architect:: Gensler Architects

400 South Record Street, formally known as The Belo Building, is the transformation of a 1980’s downtown office building and plaza. What once was an inward-focused plaza, now openly embraces the street and the public with sculptural steel planters that link between the upper plaza and lower streetscape level. The result is an environment that embraces the pedestrian experience at street level.

Existing visual barriers have been removed and art has become the main focus, both in architectural form and signature exhibits. A 10,000 SF shade structure envelopes a large portion of the plaza. A destination restaurant floats above the streetscape as a sculptural element.
